ABOUT ANNA & JAIRUS’ CLASS SERIES:
What keeps dance interesting? Right now, Anna and Jairus answer this question with improvisation- they hope to offer a chance for dancers to find radically different tones and textures within their movement choices. The structure of the class is simple- they start with a single improvisational concept (past examples: maximalism, crash, thinking fast and slow), then complicate and build upon and expand that initial idea through a series of exercises until it is something else entirely. In this three class series, Jairus and Anna will each teach a solo class, then teach a final class together. The movement will be wild, the energy will be good, and the playlist will be rocking.
Anna Bauer and Jairus Carr are dancers and choreographers living in Austin, Texas. Anna holds a BFA in Dance from Sam Houston State University, which she uses quite a bit, and Jairus holds a BS in Business Management from Western Governors University, which he uses very little. They dance for the KDH Dance Company while producing their own work. Anna and Jairus began collaborating in 2022. Most recently, their pieces have performed at Texas Dance Improvisation Festival, Barnstorm Dance Fest, Austin Dance Festival, and RAD Fest Midwest Dance Fest. Together, they have completed residencies with Bellingham Repertory Dance, Keshet Makers Space Experience, and Homeport Art House. Anna and Jairus are trying their best- they also make coffee, read books, and hold hands.
